About Michael Herrington

Michael ‘Kipper’ Herrington does not come from a racing family, born in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire he grew up being a keen cricketer & sportsman representing Yorkshire at Cricket until the age of 15. When he left school at 16 weighing only 6 stone he went to the British Racing School in Newmarket having never sat on a horse!

First job was as an apprentice with Richard Whitaker, where he had a few rides on the flat. Followed by riding as a conditional for Mary Reveley, where he a good few rides & 5 winners.

Michael went on to gain his HGV licence and work as a travelling head lad for David Nicholls, which included travelling to Hong Kong & Sweden with Group horses. Michael’s last position before taking out his trainers licence was as Travelling Head Lad followed by Assistant Trainer for Kevin Ryan.

Helen Lloyd-Herrington has been involved with horses for much of her life, starting off on ponies in Pony Club activities, going on to compete at Dressage, Eventing & Showjumping to a high level mainly on homebred horses. Although she had’nt ridden racehorses on the gallops until the last few years, Helen has retrained several ex racehorses to go Eventing & is used to dealing with Thoroughbreds.
