Steelriver strikes at Wolverhampton

Steelriver who hadn't won since since we trained him originally in 2014, scored an impressive win at Wolverhampton yesterday. He was sold out of our yard in 2015 rated 95. Having been with 2 different trainers the second in Ireland we noticed he was in Goffs sales in November and as his form and mark had plummeted decided we would get him back if he was cheap! Since he came back to us his form figures read 2321 allbeit at a lower level, he showed us he still had some sparkle left! Hopefully there's more to come!

2 winners from our new yard

We have been back in action since the break because of equine influenza, our horses were tested and given the all clear!
Steelriver keeps knocking on the door and was narrowly denied at Newcastle on Friday evening.
Jan van Hoof was an impressive winner at Newcastle on Friday he has been giving away too much ground at the start of his races due to his antics in the stalls before hand! He wasn't perfect but he was able to jump with them this time!
Duke Cosimo has been in good form recently and added a second win this winter at Newcastle on Monday evening in a dead heat!

New Year, New Yard!

Michael Herrington Racing have moved to train from Malton!
We completed our move to Norton Grange last week where we have access to a great range of gallops including Langton Wold gallops and Highfield gallops. We also have a 2.5 furlong round gallop on the yard as well as a carpet surface lunge pen and brand new a Monarch Horse-walker.
The horses all seem to have settled in well and we are looking to have our first runner from the new yard at Southwell on Sunday!

Kommander Kirkup strikes again back at Southwell

Back to his favourite track Kommander Kirkup makes it his fourth win at the track in the space of 12 months! Getting a dream run with no kick back round the inside he just had the favourite First Excel to beat. Given a strong ride from Andrew Mullen he was produced to perfection just before the line. He will be returning to Southwell in a few weeks hopefully!

We have several new recruits that have some shares still available. STEELRIVER who was a former classy inmate for us peaking at a mark of 95. He has returned to us from Ireland and has a competitive mark of 62 to run on the all weather this winter. He is a very sound horse and we know what makes him tick so hopefully he can do well on the AW this winter/Spring!
TUM TUM is an unexposed 3 yr old gelding formerly trained in Newmarket. He has a mark of 79 and showed some very promising runs in his maidens. He was quite buzzy in Newmarket but seems very settled in our quiet yard. He will be ready to run soon.
STREET POET has already won 2 races for us this year and the plan is for him to run on the AW for the rest of the winter and then on turf but he does need cut in the ground as he is a heavy topped horse.
Get in touch if you are interested and would like to get involved for 2019

Several shares available in AW horses

There are currently shares available in horses that are fit and ready to run on the AW this winter, also shares are available in a couple of new recruits for 2019. Get in touch!

Duke Cosimo comes to the rescue

Whilst the horses we've been running have been in good form recently we were struggling for a winner, the ground over the summer was too firm for most of our horses and we couldn't really run much. It was a very frustrating time but with limited resources we have to be patient.
Duke Cosimo having run a blinder at Newcastle last week to finish second, he went one better at Kempton this week! Congratulations to his owner Michael's Dad!!

Tattersalls HIT sales -new recruits

Michael will be heading to Newmarket sales for the big HIT sale at the end of this month. Having retired some of our older heros and some of the younger ones we didn't think were going to pay their way we need to recruit some new blood. So if your looking to get involved shares will be available large or small! Get in touch we look forward to hearing form you.

Double on the day

The Amber Fort won by a nose on his first start for us at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening. From the widest draw he was given a great ride by top amateur Kaine Wood. Street Poet followed up with a second win over C&D also from the widest draw under a polished ride from Tom Eaves. All in all a very successful evening.

Shares are still available in 'The Amber Fort'

If you are interested in joining our winning team with over a 20% strike rate in 2018 and numerous placings get in touch via the website or email:

Street Poet continues our winning streak

We are delighted Street Poet got his win after finishing 2nd in his last 4 starts! It was a great ride from jockey Tom Eaves from the widest draw! Congratulations to owners Acorn Racing.

One two at Lingfield!!

We took Mishaal and Newstead Abbey to Lingfield on Wednesday for a classified claiming race, Mishaal claimed top spot from Newstead Abbey in second place, they pulled 3 lengths clear of the third horse with Mishaal winning a shade cosily! Neither of ours were claimed all be it the third and fourth horse were?!

Week of ups and downs

A very sad week with Helen's father Julian Lloyd passing away on the morning of the 21st March, he must have been looking down and cheering us on as Kommander Kirkup provided an emotional win at Southwell later the same day, the following day Newstead Abbey scored again at Wolverhampton. Both these horses have done us very proud in the last year, Kirkup winning 3 and 5 seconds and Newstead winning 4 races.

Dazeekha scores a second win

We had 2 runners at Wolverhampton yesterday, Street Poet finished 2nd again! but Dazeekha managed to go one better and score a decisive win ridden from the front by Jason Hart.

We are suffering from Seconditus!!

Whilst its great to see the horses running well, we seem to be suffering from a touch of seconditus syndrome!! They must have caught from Kommander Kirkup who has fininshed 2nd on his last 5 starts! We have had 23 runners in 2018, of which 9 have finished second along with 2 winners for good measure!

Dazeekha gets up at 20/1

Winning by a nose, this filly who is a half sister to Dazacam has been far from straightforward to train. The win justifies connections faith in this filly as we knew she had ability hiding away!!

First Winner for 2018

Duke Cosimo provided us with our first winner for 2018! Having had two seconds the day before at Southwell with Kommander Kirkup & Street Poet, we were hoping a winner would not be far away!

Newstead Abbey wins at Southwell

Notching up his third win for us this year, he won with some authority taking the claimer at Southwell yesterday!!

Kommander Kirkup enjoys the sand at Southwell

Kommander Kirkup ran really well from a wide draw to win decisively on his first try at Southwell today, he stayed wide the whole way and kept himself out of the kick back. He is a quirky horse who is happiest when he can race away from the other horses and doesn't like to be in amongst the other runners. Hopefully he can go on from this win.

Another win for Honey Badger

Yesterday at Newcastle Honey Badger notched up a second win for us much to the delight of his owner/breeders Debbie & John Black. They had made the long journey up from Newmarket to witness his 2nd victory in 5 starts for our stable.
Street Poet ran into 2nd place beaten a neck, with his draw in stall 1 probably taking its toll.

Horses in good form, but too many seconds!!

Since our last update, Newstead Abbey has finished second in another photograph at Wolverhampton and scored a second win of 2017 at Chelmsford, another photograph!!
Mishaal has finished second twice in a week at Kempton, both photographs!! Duke Cosimo ran well to finish third at Newcastle on Friday evening, he should be winning soon. Our newest recruit Honey Badger has had three runs for us since he arrived late August, two seconds and then a much anticipated win at Chelmsford on Saturday evening. Keep up the good work horses!

Newstead Abbey to the rescue

Newstead Abbey was a welcome winner at Wolverhampton on Friday, he should have gone close for us when he ran at Wolverhampton earlier in the year, but the first time blinkers that day made him far too keen. He seems to be in good form again now so will hopefully go on from this win.

Doc Sportello heads to AW Finals

Doc Sportello is on his way to Lingfield for tomorrows AW Championship Sprint. He seems in good form at home but has been given the worst of draws in stall 14! It is a track that suits being drawn low and unfortunately we have a lot of extra work to do from stall 14.

2 winners for this week

Ticks the Boxes won at Newcastle on Wednesday coming back to form in a 6f claimer, we were quite surprised he didn't get claimed.
Kelpies Myth came back to form in some style after having a break over Christmas, he won the bumper at Musselburgh on Friday with his ears pricked, there is definitely more to come from this strapping son of Dutch Art.

Dazacam win number 4!!

Dazacam wins her fourth race from her last 5 starts. Dropping back into a 0-85 having finished a close 3rd in a Conditions Race last week she won quite cosily from her 3 other opponents. She now heads the category for 'most wins' in the AW Championship table alongside Swiss Cross & Go George Go.

AW Finals here we come|!!

Our newest recruit Doc Sportello wasted no time establishing himself as a smart horse by winning the AW Fast Track qualifier at Newcastle yesterday only his second start for us. He made a pleasing start with us last week when finishing 2nd over 6f. Dropping back to 5f yesterday he was impressive. He will probably have one more run before the finals.

It wasn't a bad start to 2017 with our new recruit 'Doc Sportello' running very well in a competitive sprint back at Newcastle. Having been claimed for £10000 a couple of weeks previously having won at Newcastle he was subsequently put up 12Ib for that win.
He is a lightly raced 5 year old so we are hopeful of a good season ahead.

Dazacam makes it a hat-trick

Dazacam won for a third time, this time a Chelmsford Racecourse, having gone up 11Ib from her Newcastle win she was entitled to find this harder but she cruised through with her usually turn of foot and never looked in trouble.

Patients is rewarded with Ticks the Boxes

Having been off for 6 months he has taken a couple of runs to get back into stride but won well today at Southwell, hopefully he will go on from here over the winter.

Dazacam adds another win to her CV

Dazacam wins a second nursery this time at Newcastle Races, she looked to be travelling like the winner from a long way out, she is a very brave genuine filly and hopefully the step up in grade will not hinder her progress.

Shares or sole ownership available in Newstead Abbey

Purchased at Goffs UK earlier this month, he is a 6 year old gelding currently rated 82. Having had a short break he will be coming back into training in the next week or two. He will be aimed for a grass campaign next year. He last won off a mark of 95 so he is well handicapped to strike again in 2017.
Please contact us direct if you would like further details.

Shares also available in

Inshaa will be back on the allweather in 2017, he is definitely a winner waiting to happen and he loves Newcastle!
We also have a very nice Delegator filly (out of Echo of Foosteps) who is strengthening up into a lovely looking horse.
For more details please contact us direct

Dazacam gains nursery win

Dazacam our only 2 year old in training gained her first win at Wolverhampton on Friday evening under jockey Robert Winston. Owned and bred by Darren & Annaley Yates her success was really exciting news for the mare whose Lethal Force colt foal was sold at Tattersalls on Wednesday.

Some more new recruits

We acquired Newstead Abbey & Kommander Kirkup at Doncaster (Goffs UK) Sales last week. Both these horses have shown a good level of ability in the not so distant past and we hope that a change of scenery will do them good! There is the opportunity to buy shares in Newstead Abbey if anyone is interested, he is rated 82 and will hopefully be running at some good meetings next year.

Nice new addition to the squad for 2017

We bought a lovely 3 year old gelding called TAKHOOM from the HIT sale at Newmarket last week. He has been bought by a new owner and we are very excited to have him on board for next year!

Nathaniel yearling from Tattersalls Book 3

We have taken a share in this lovely filly by Nathaniel out of Opening Ceremony, from a family we know well being half sister to Pryers Princess and Olympic Ceremony. We will look to break her after Christmas as her breeding suggests she wont be seeing the racecourse until the backend of her 2 year old year.

Kelpies Myth runs a stormer at Huntingdon

Having his first start in a 3 year olds only 'Junior Bumper' this huge son of Dutch Art ran a game race that belied his inexperience to finish 3rd beaten 3/4 of a length having been hampered just before the finish line.

Sophisticated Heir bolts up at Wolverhampton

Dropped in trip to 6f and with blinkers re-fitted Splodge as he is affectionately known won easily under a great ride from Joe Fanning. We were not convinced the drop to 6f would suit but as we already had Dazacam running that evening for the same connections thought we would give it a try.

Intalza enjoys a double

This time it was Hamilton Park where this very game filly enjoyed her third win of 2016. Again making all the running, she has struck up a great partnership with jockey Joe Doyle.

Another Lincolnday wins over 2 miles at Pontefract

He was given a well judged front running ride from Tom Eaves to win for the first time since coming back off an 18 month break due to having sustained a double fracture in 2014. He is a lovely horse who should go on from this win.

Intalza enjoys the soft ground at Carlisle

Scoring for the second time in 2016, Intalza wins from the front another finely judged ride by Joe Doyle. The win looked in no doubt as she enjoys the softer conditions under foot!

2 winnners in 2 days

Indastar was a ready winner at Newcastle on Saturday, having been touched off by a nose at Hamilton on his previous start. This horse seems in great form with himself and could easily go in again!
Mishaal's win at Pontefract on Sunday was his first since 2014, he has run some great races without winning and has stayed high in the handicap as a result. He is in great form and should keep running with credit.

Duke Cosimo wins the 'Directors Cup' at Ripon

It was a good performance from a difficult draw and he did it quite easily in the end, we think there is more to come from this well bred gelding.

Intalza wins at Redcar

Nice win first time out for this 3 year old filly, she loved the soft ground and will improve for the run!

We are looking to rehome Hadaj so if anyone is keen to give him a new life away from racing please get in touch.

New Sales Purchases

We have picked up a couple of new horses from the Autumn HIT Sales, Ticks the Boxes is a lovely 3 year old by Fast Company and has won races as a 2 year old.
Duke Cosimo has been bought from Doncaster this week with a view to running in handicaps next year on the grass. Both horses will be rested over the winter ready for next spring.

Mercers Row records a 2nd win since joining us in August

Mercers has been a revelation since dropping back to sprinting distances, he has ran 5 times since joining us in August has won 2 and finished 2nd & 4th. Todays win came at Pontefract over 5f!!

Steelriver 3rd again at Kempton

Steelriver has finished 3rd on his last 3 starts and tonight he ran a blinder at Kempton to finish 3rd to Lancelot du Lac. He is running very well now he's back on his preferred all weather surface and will head to the HIT sale at Tattersalls at the end of the month.

Kingscroft wins at Wolves

Kingscroft won the claimer at Wolverhampton yesterday but the celebrations were muted as he was claimed in the process. Such a star of a horse and we are very sorry to see him go but we have to respect our owners wishes.

Newest recruit Mercers Row bags a win at Redcar

We haven't had him long but in 3 runs for us has finished 2nd, 4th & now a 1st prize! We will probably stick to 6f for now as he shows plenty of speed.

Pryers Princess gets her head in front at Doncaster

With a great ride from Freddy Tylicki , the 3 year old Medicean filly justified our faith in her after an unlucky run at Thirsk last week, onwards and upwards!

Indastar makes it a first at Thirsk

Indastar wins the final race at our local track Thirsk Racecourse in great style, hopefully he can progress on from this but a great result for his patient local owners and connections!

Kingscroft wins at Wolverhampton

Its was good to see Kingscroft win so well last night at Wolverhampton, he was in really good form with himself and feels a fresh and happy!

Mishaal just denied on Channel 4 at Kempton

Mishaal was just touched off by a head at Kempton on Saturday under a good ride from Franny Norton. Having made all he looked at one stage like he may get swallowed up but he stuck his neck out and rallied with the winner as they both drew clear of the rest of the field. He was very unlucky and Franny said that both horses had deserved to win! Maybe next time!!

Pryers Princess back in action

Yesterday on the all weather at Wolverhampton Pryers Princess ran a very promising race to finish second, she was running on all the way to the line and will come on a lot from this her first run in 9 months.

Recently retired from racing

Both Dazeen and Worcharlie'slass have been recently rehomed by Kate Turner at Cheveral House Racehorse Rehoming, both horses have retired sound and well and will no doubt enjoy a well earned rest and turnout over the summer. Kate is very good at finding the right home for each horse and we look forward to keeping in touch with their progress

Seven Lucky Seven 3rd again!

He ran well over a mile at Lingfield on Friday, he looked to get the trip easily enough but he just needs a stronger pace and more runners to aim at otherwise he seems to loose a bit of interest in the closing stages of the race.

Dazeen & Steelriver run at Wolverhampton on Monday

Both horses are in good form with themselves and we are hoping the will both put up a good show, It's Steelriver's first attempt at 5f.

Casual Work riders & Stable Staff Needed

We currently have a vacancy for full time stable staff, the position includes all yard duties, riding out & going racing. Wages as per NASS guidelines. Accommodation available on site.
Also opportunities for freelance work riders, capable of riding 2 year olds.please contact us for further details.

Seven Lucky Seven runs at Lingfield Friday 13th!!

Stepping up to a mile at Lingfield to see if the longer trip can help his hold up tactics, he won over a stiff 7f at Salisbury last summer for his previous trainer so we think its worth a try.

News on our two year olds for 2015!!

We have 2 colts and 3 fillies coming along nicely in preparation for the 2015 season, they all seem to be good rides with straightforward attitudes which is always a plus! Have a look at our Horses in Training page for more details on them, photos will follow shortly!

Lingfield Runners Mishaal & Steelriver

Mishaal ran a great race to finish 3rd in a tight photo for the first 3 places. He seems to be on the up still and we are all very pleased with him. Steelriver looked as though he doesn't quite handle the track & possibly is better over a 7f.

Happy New Year

We have had a quiet start to the new year, but things are set to get busy again next week with Seven Lucky Seven running at Kempton on Wednesday.

Stable Staff vacancy

We are looking for another full time member of staff to join our team. Experienced rider would be preferred. Accommodation available - please contact us for more details!

A week of seconditis

Out of 5 runners this week we have had 3 of them finish 2nd! Speightowns Kid finished second again at Southwell on Tuesday, he ran really well in defeat and unfortunately was claimed, which we are sad about but that's the name of the game when you run them in claiming races! Seven Lucky Seven finished second again at Kempton this time over 7f. He runs again at Wolverhampton on Saturday hopefully he can go one better!
Steelriver also finished second at Kempton this evening, finishing with his usually late burst it looked like he might just get there, it sounds like the surface at Kempton is riding quite slow due to the cold weather and that wont of helped him, but we are really pleased with him overall.

Stable Staff Required

We are currently looking for a full time yard person. Non rider but someone who is experienced with racehorses & can take charge of yard when needed. Would suit someone local. Good wages & working conditions.

Mishaal brings us to 10 winners for the season

Mishaal made all to win under a great ride from Paul Mulrennan tonight at Kempton. In a good time his win never looked in doubt.

Busy week of runners!

We are set for a busy week, started yesterday with Speightowns Kid finishing 2nd by short head at Southwell. He seems to be coming back to some form.
This evening Steelriver runs at Kempton Park, its a big ask from a bad draw but we will see how good he is.
Thursday we have Mishaal running at Kempton, he seems in good form still but will probably have a winter break after this run.
Friday we have 3 runners at Wolverhampton, Hadaj has a bad draw in 12 & we are still trying to work out his best trip. Seven Lucky Seven has a good draw in 3 and on his last run we hope he will be in the shake up. Kingscroft ran very well at Wolverhampton 2 starts ago and if he reproduced that run should be there abouts.

Successful couple of days at Doncaster Sales

We have managed to come home with some new recruits this week. We purchased a really nice horse from John Gosden's called TWIN POINT.
we also have 2 more yearlings heading our way (after they've been broken in!), a Motivator ex Opening Ceremony colt and a Captain Gerrard ex Dazakhee filly.
Exciting times!!!

Al Muheer comes very close at Newmarket

Al ran a blinder today off a low weight to just be held by a neck by the winner, he hasn't been with us very long and the owner was thinking he might retire him as he'd not been showing much sparkle this season. Hopefully he will be able to get his head infront very soon.

Bloodstock Agents show interest in Steelriver after Kempton win

The morning after Steelriver's win at Kempton we have had Bloodstock agents on the phone wanting to secure a deal to buy the horse. His owner is happy to sell, for the right money of course! We as the trainer would love to keep him but understand the commercial sense of selling him on as he was bought in July at Tattersalls for small change! We are sure that the horse is still improving and we've not seen the best of him yet!!

Steelriver cruises to victory at Kempton Park

Under a great ride from Shane Kelly Steelriver won very cosily at Kempton yesterday evening . Our best career win to date in a 0-95 handicap. We now have a strike rate of 5 wins to 15 runners at the London track.

Horses in Training Sales

We are off to Tattersalls next week for their HIT sales hoping to find some nice horses for next year!
We will be at the Doncaster November Sale the week after aswell so if anyone is interested in buying into a racehorse or even a small share do get in touch!

Second time lucky for Steelriver!

Steelriver won easily at Wolverhampton tonight, having finished 2nd on his first start for our yard ( should have won easily that day too!!) He was bought cheaply at the July Sales earlier this year & he seemed to have been suffering with ulcers. We are hoping he will go on from here as he has loads of ability.

Kingscroft upholds our horses good form

Kingscroft finished an unlucky 2nd having been keen the whole way round, then getting stuck behind a wall of horses turning in and finished a running on 2nd. Nearly but not quite a double for the yard but at least the horses seem in good form with themselves!!

Dazeen is back with a bang!

Dazeen notched up his first win since July 2011 having missed all of 2012, two runs in 2013 and most of 2014! It was a miracle that we got him back on the track at all this year having suffered a potentially life threatening hock infection in the spring.

Ayr Bronze Cup start for Mishaal

Mishaal runs in the Bronze Cup at Ayr's big meeting of the year tomorrow. He is in good form seems to have conditions and draw to suit so fingers crossed for a good run.

Indastar is top of the class at Wolverhampton

Indastar won very nicely at Wolverhampton on Monday, on only his 5th career start and his 2nd start for us after a long layoff. He is a really nice horse and will hopefully go on from this.

Kingscroft on form at Thirsk

Kingscroft ran a great race at Thirsk on Saturday to finish 3rd in the Summer Cup. With torrential rain & the ground turning heavy just before his race, the odds were stacked against being drawn 17 of 18!!
He has come out of the race fresh and well so has been declared to run at Pontefract on Wednesday.

Mishaal runs a blinder at Chester

Mishaal ran a great race to come 2nd at Chester in a very competitive handicap with good prize money on offer. We seem to have corrected his slow starts and Paul Mulrennan seems to have really clicked with the 4 year old son of Kheleyf.

Mishaal wins by 6 lengths at Carlisle

Mishaal duly consented to jump the stalls with the other runners and posted an easy 6 length win! Our efforts with the stalls training for the last 2 weeks has paid off and he was an easy winner.

Kuwait Star goes in again

Kuwait Star followed up his Carlisle win by winning the Betdaq Haydock Park Apprentice Handicap Stakes over 1 mile. He made all and held on in a photo finish always holding off the second horse. I don't think he will be running again quickly as ideally he wants more cut in the ground.

A busy week & seconditus

After a busy week of runners that has seen Mishaal finish second at Beverley, Gladsome finishing fourth at Thirsk and Kingscroft running a blinder to finish second at Doncaster we end the week with Kuwait Star winning at Haydock Park!! A good week for our small string of horses.

New Arrivals from Tattersalls July Sales

We have 2 new horses from the sales at Tattersalls, Newmarket. STEELRIVER & SEVEN LUCKY SEVEN both arrived at the end of last week. Both horses are fit and ready to run, Seven Lucky Seven having won at Salisbury on his penultimate start for his previous trainer.

This weeks declared runners so far!!

Mishaal & Gladsome start off the week.
Mishaal runs at Beverley on Tuesday 15th July, he is a horse with plenty of ability but isn't the most straight forward, his latest trick is to give the rest of the field a 15 length head start, we have been working on this and hope he jumps well tomorrow.
Gladsome runs at Thirsk on Tuesday evening, she is in very good form having finished a close 3rd from a bad draw in a better class race at Carlisle last Saturday, so we are hopeful of a good performance as she is very genuine, but could do with some cut in the ground.
Casper Lee runs at Catterick on Wednesday and we are hopeful of a good run as he is very well in himself and can handle most ground conditions.

Kuwait Star makes all to win at Carlisle

Kuwait Star ran a great race from a bad draw to win from the front at Carlisle last night. The big galloping 5 year old by Resplendent Glory made all and stuck on well up the hill to gain his first victory of 2014!

Kingscroft wins at Haydock

Kingscroft ridden by claiming jockey Jacob Butterfield wins the The Sock Shop Handicap at Haydock Park on Saturday evening. Winning by 1/2 a length from Postscript despite being fairly keen in the early stages of the race. Hopefully there is more to come from him as he is a lovely horse.

First Runners on Turf

Saturday 12th April sees our first runner of the 2014 Turf Season - MISHAAL runs in the 6.15pm race at Thirsk.

New Arrivals!!

We have 3 new horses that have very kindly been sent to us by some new owners, Kingscroft, Dazeen & Casper Lee, they will all be aimed for the turf season!! Exciting times ahead!!

Shares available!!

We have limited shares available in Speightowns Kid who is fit & ready to run!

Peter's Friend

Unfortunately Peter's Friend picked up an injury at Southwell races last week and will be off the track for sometime. All being well he will be back next winter.

Peter's Friend going for more glory at Southwell today

Peter's Friend is bidding to make it a third win of the winter season at Southwell today in the 4pm race

2014 Syndicate Shares

Syndicate shared will be available in select young horses for the 2014 season!! Please check the website for updates & opportunities for ownership.
